Twenty years ago the planet Yarkona Azura was a paradise untouched by the harsh hands of war. The grass was a beautiful lush blue and the sky and emerald green that seemed to be as radiant as the gem itself. Trees covered the terrain while animals roamed the planet without fear of being harmed. The inhabitants of the planet, known as the Torra, lived in peace with each other when an event occurred that would change life as they knew it forever. A meteorite shower took place one night, much to the Torran’s surprise and amazement. They flocked outside to watch the beautiful display across the midnight sky when a meteorite hit the planet causing a cataclysmic chain of events; the moment the meteorite struck the ground creating an enormous crater that triggered an equally massive earthquake shook the ground, causing the people to cower in terror as they watch their paradise change right before their very eyes. New mountains formed, trees fell into huge fissures and animals stampeded, threatening to trample the Torrans’ homes after what seemed like hours, the earthquake stopped and all seemed calm…that is until a volcano erupted. Ash spewed everywhere and lava seeped out of the volcano, flowing down the mountain and into the newly formed crater, melting the meteorite and seeping into the cracks down deep into the planet. Trees were burned as the lava continued to flow, threatening to burn the Torrans’ homes until it reached a newly formed fissure that acted as a trench around the small town. Eventually the lava stopped, having filled up the trench and the volcano calmed although ash blanketed the ground, making the area appear to be a winter wonderland as more ash sprinkled down from the heavens. In one night, the paradise called Yarkona Azura had changed drastically and it seemed as if nothing would ever be the same again.
Weeks went by and it seemed that Yarkona Azura had returned to a sense of normalcy, rain had fallen since the eruption and had dissolved most of the ash spewed out by the volcano although some patches were still visible, mostly in areas that didn’t receive much rain. The Torrans had gone about their daily lives but with one exception; they now had what they deemed a ‘magical well’ for the water that sprung up from deep in the planet’s core seemed to have magical properties that healed any ailment and quickened the recovery of even the most seriously injured Torran. Very soon, every Torran had flocked to the mysterious well to have just a taste of it, not knowing that the delicious magical water would have some very strange side effects to it.
One day a young man was walking down the streets of town when he suddenly began to feel very warm, none of this made sense since it was a crisp fall morning. Shaking it off, he continued his stroll through the town until the warm feeling increased once again; it felt as if a fire was building up inside him, begging to be set free. Confused and alarmed, the young man ran through the town and towards the well where it seemed that a whole bunch of other people were having the same problem he was having. The only person that seemed to be handling the situation well was Merlin, the elder of the town; the elder had called a town meeting to address the concerns of the people and to tell them a prophecy that he had just unearthed.
The prophecy stated that a mysterious power would come down from the stars to prepare for a terrible ordeal in the future. This sent the listeners in a panic as they questioned the elder, wondering when this ordeal would happen; what ordeal would it be, and how soon would it come to pass? But even the elder didn’t know this as most of the prophecy had not been deciphered yet, but the elder did know that the Torrans needed to work together to harness their new found power to be able to defend themselves against this new threat to their home. The townspeople agreed with this and dedicated a team of scientists to find out exactly how to use these new powers. Weeks went by and the scientists found out that if they held a staff or a wand, they could harness their mysterious powers; the information was passed to the elder who immediately issued staffs and wands to all the townspeople. With this newfound knowledge, the townspeople spent hours training day in and day out to find out the extent of their power and how to use it to their advantage. After extensive training the Torra realized that their power came from the very world around them; they could harness the elements: fire, air, earth, water, and so many others to use to defend themselves and those around them. Even the animals were changing into more beautiful and majestic creatures with their own mysterious power. There were now birds born of flames, horse-like creatures with horns on their heads and so many more wonderful creatures. It seemed as if the whole of Yarkona Azura was changing to defend against this as of yet unknown threat.
Ten years have passed since the time the Torrans first gained a mysterious power and the Torra had come a long way in learning how to gain control over their power. There was now a school where young children could learn about their power and how to control it and the staffs were much more intricate. Not mere pieces of wood snagged out of the forest, now each staff and wand was attuned to a specific individual’s power for the Torra have learned that different people have better control over certain elements. These along with the ability to speak to the magical creatures around them have given them the hope that they can defeat the evil coming in the future.
One night, the very thing that the Torrans had been preparing for came to pass…the night had been a dark one, and the whole of Yarkona Azura seemed to hold his breath when the sun appeared over the horizon, revealing a red sky; a foreboding sign indeed that the day would bring misfortune. The Torrans watched the sky with an uneasy feeling in the pit of their stomachs as they went about their day as the color of the sky changed from a light red to a foreboding blood red. Yarkona Azura seemed to hold its breath; the animals seemed more anxious then usual despite the Torrans’ efforts to calm them down, even the trees looked like they were wilting underneath the red sky. Sure enough, threatening clouds loomed over the Torrans’ city and it began to rain, thunder boomed and lightening flashed when suddenly a dark crystal shot out and planted itself in the forest. This was overlooked during the thunderstorm though as the crystal was mistaken for another strike of lightening. The crystal grew in the forest unnoticed, corrupting everything that it touched; the trees turned a sickly grey, the animals began to act strangely, mutating into ferocious beasts that would kill anything or anyone they could get their hands on. The land itself began to mutate, creating deadly plants with poison in them that could kill instantaneously and sand pits, hungry to devour any unwitting passerby. The deformities continued as the crystal grew and surely would have devoured the whole of Yarkona Azura if it weren’t for the Torrans.
Fearful for the sake of their beloved Yarkona Azura, the Torrans placed wards against the disease spreading; confining it to a forest that alas, they could not save for the infection was too deep to eradicate. This they named the forbidden forest, for unspeakable evils lived in that forest, monsters that wouldn’t hesitate to kill even the most innocent child. The crystal had stopped growing with the end of the infection and now seemed to transform in a castle that looked as evil as the infection the crystal had caused. Inside the castle were the sleeping Duvessa, foreigners to Yarkona Azura that had been asleep while the infection spread, feeding them power as the land became corrupted. Now waking from their slumber, the Duvessa walked outside the castle and surveyed their surroundings, surprised that the entire planet hadn’t been devoured by the corrupting power of the crystal, but that matter was inconsequential. It seemed that there were natives on this planet that had stopped the corrupting power, thus saving the planet from a terrifying fate. Unlike the Torra, the Duvessa were a power hungry, greedy people that enjoyed the suffering of others; they would stop at nothing to gain absolute control of the planet, even if it meant eradicating every trace of life on the planet.
After a few days on the planet, the Duvessa realized that Yarkona Azura seemed to have a strange effect on their bodies. The Duvessa already had an unspeakable power available at their fingertips, but after spending a mere few days on the planet, their power had increased to almost twice what it had been. Curious as to what this power source was, the Duvessa studied every rock, tree, creature; anything they could get their hands on. It wasn’t until weeks later that they realized the water was the source, bubbling up from underneath the earth. Excited at this discovery, the Duvessa burrowed under the soil in hopes of finding the source of the mysterious water, but failed miserably in their quest. Furious, they struck out at the Torra, with the intention of forcing the location of the power out of them. The Torra found themselves forced into war against the Duvessa as a result with no end in sight but to give up their beloved Yarkona Azura.
Now, the Torra find themselves pushed into a tough situation, the Duvessa are gaining the upper hand and the Torrans now have very few battle ready warriors to fend off the Duvessa. Finding themselves in a desperate situation, the Torra search for a way to find new people that could help them gain the advantage against the Duvessa and find a planet called Avani populated with people that have similar abilities to the Torra. Unfortunately, the Duvessa have discovered the same planet and are now devising a way to gain their own back up from the small planet. With the situation growing even more desperate each passing day, will the Torra succeed in persuading the people of Avani to join them and bring peace back to Yarkona Azura, or will Duvessa gain the upper hand once again and crush the Torra and with them, their beloved Yarkona Azura…?
